- In consultation with relevant personnel, identify factors impact how hair needs to be styled to meet production requirements
- Source reference materials and research aspects of hairdressing assignments
- Generate a range of ideas for hair designs that take account of discussions, background research and an appreciation of how hairstyles can enhance characterisation
- Maintain currency of reference materials, documentation and findings, for use by relevant personnel
- Take into account the effect lighting has on hair colour and aspects of physical appearance when preparing designs
- Prepare hair designs in an appropriate format and discuss with relevant personnel
- Refine designs to incorporate feedback as required
- Prepare for hairdressing assignments
- Check styling aids and hairdressing tools are available in line with production schedules
- Determine variables of working environment and adjust planned procedures as required
- Take into account characteristics of performers’ hair and physical appearance that may affect the way in which the desired style is achieved
- Explain hairdressing procedures to performers and respond appropriately to their questions
- Check facilities and equipment meet health, hygiene and safety requirements
- Create hair designs
- Select styling aids, tools and techniques appropriate to required hairstyles
- Test performers’ skin for potential adverse reactions and take immediate and appropriate action if required
- Check performers are comfortable during hairdressing sessions
- Produce hair designs according to production requirements, including accurate creation of period hairstyles
- Confirm with relevant personnel that hair designs meet production requirements and adjust styles as required
- Make required adjustments to performers’ hair quickly and accurately at appropriate times during productions
- Re-create the same designs for performers on consecutive occasions as required
- Document hair designs for future performances and continuity purposes
