Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Research ideas for own creative work
   • Identify and source information that supports the development of ideas for creative work
   • Critically analyse information in the context of current and potential work and in relation to intellectual property considerations
2. Generate ideas for own creative work
   • Develop a range of different, innovative and creative ideas based on the nature of own creative practice
   • Analyse and integrate ideas generated from research
   • Identify possible constraints on own ideas
   • Select ideas based on research, analysis and relevant constraints
3. Discuss ideas with others
   • Identify and seek out people who can provide valuable input to discussions about work ideas
   • Present key information on own ideas and their process of development
   • Facilitate discussion, debate and critical analysis of ideas using effective communication techniques
4. Adjust and refine ideas for own creative work
   • Analyse the views and contributions of others
   • Formulate analysis of own ideas based on personal aspirations and goals, and consideration of any intellectual property issues
   • Refine own ideas based on analysis and interactions with others

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

generate ideas for creative work grounded in research and analysis

identify potential ideas for creative work and draw links with own work

select ideas to progress in own work based on research, analysis and relevant constraints

present own ideas to others and engage in discussions so that ideas can be challenged

analyse outcomes of discussions and refine own ideas.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

outline historical and contemporary sources of information in chosen area of practice that can serve to inform the development of ideas

outline communication techniques that facilitate productive discussions around ideas for creative work

describe effective ways of collaborating in creative practice

describe intellectual property issues that affect the development of ideas for own creative work.
