Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare for prop production
- In consultation with relevant personnel, confirm requirements for constructing props using a range of media
- With reference to prop documentation, discuss with colleagues ways in which production requirements could be met
- Select prop construction techniques that meet aesthetic requirements and provide correct visual interpretation of production requirements
- Take measurements for prop items and alter design scale drawings as required
- Select and prepare equipment, tools and media according to design and specification requirements
- Make prop items
- Participate in discussions with relevant personnel throughout the construction process to ensure prop design requirements are met
- Construct prop items using the selected media, construction techniques and art finishes
- Follow safety procedures throughout the construction process according to organisational requirements
- Participate in ongoing trials to establish the most effective techniques, determine the effect lighting will have, and solve problems that arise during the construction phase
- Correctly label and code all partially finished prop items for identification during the production phase
- Store partially finished prop items during the production phase to avoid loss or damage
- Finish mixed media props
- Complete fireproofing according to relevant state/territory health and safety legislative requirements
- Liaise with relevant personnel to check prop items for accuracy and compliance with design and production specifications
- Adjust items to take account of feedback and discussions and update documentation as required
- Label and code all prop elements for identification during productions
- Store props according to organisational procedures
- Clean, maintain and store tools, equipment and materials according to workplace and safety requirements
- Contribute to evaluation of prop construction processes and note ways to improve own work performance
