Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

identify fireworks that are faulty or not quality assured

select and use fuses and manually initiate fireworks in a safe manner

select, test and ignite fireworks with electric initiation equipment

select and use securing devices

apply procedures for:

controlling unwanted ignitions and environmental changes

managing sites and crowds

lead a work team during at least one close proximity fireworks display

operate at least one close proximity fireworks display in a safe manner by:

continuously assessing risks

implementing additional control measures when required

complete post-display activities.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided for each of the above points at least once.


Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements the individual must:

explain what is meant by exclusion zones, and the reasons for establishing them for close proximity fireworks displays

describe issues that need to be addressed in safety management systems

describe current industry practices that must be considered when operating close proximity fireworks displays

explain technical issues with fireworks and associated equipment that potentially affect their safe use

describe potential risk factors to be taken into account when operating close proximity fireworks displays and provide examples of how to minimise those risks and resolve them if necessary

provide examples of statutory requirements and current industry best practice in relation to the operation of close proximity fireworks displays.
