Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare for close proximity fireworks displays
- Discuss issues associated with the use and operation of fireworks for displays with relevant personnel
- Establish manual and electric firing techniques for fireworks in line with current industry practices
- Identify fireworks material from physical features and markings
- Take account of dangers and safety issues associated with preparing fireworks on-site and off-site
- Follow procedures for the transport and storage of fireworks material according to state or territory regulatory requirements
- Follow procedures to address health, safety and emergency services issues regarding ventilation, air quality, smoke detectors, visibility and other automated system controls
- Set up close proximity fireworks displays
- Determine the composition of fireworks and their suitability for close proximity spaces
- Establish and manage exclusion zones and control measures for sites
- Implement statutory and risk managed site safety measures
- Supervise the set-up of equipment and fireworks according to safety management systems
- Monitor internal environmental factors to ensure safety
- Operate fireworks
- Instigate immediate pre-display activities in relation to health and safety according to state or territory regulatory requirements
- Safely initiate fireworks in line with current industry practices
- Maintain control of displays through monitoring and supervision of others as required
- Take appropriate action where problems are identified
- Supervise operations in ways that foster cohesion in the work team
- Finalise work operations
- Clean up and return venues to owners in original condition
- Complete other post-display activities and documentation as required
- In consultation with relevant personnel, evaluate the effectiveness of operations and safety measures and note areas for improvement in future close proximity fireworks displays
