Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Examine protocols for the production of cultural works.
   • Identify appropriate sources of information on cultural identity and the ways in which it can be expressed.
   • Determine appropriate knowledge permitted for cultural expressions.
   • Research and follow appropriate protocols for the production of cultural works, including copyright and intellectual property.
2. Develop concept for work that expresses cultural identity.
   • Evaluate and use cultural information in an appropriate way in developing a concept for work.
   • Consider cultural information and identity in the development of concept, with due consideration of cultural protocols.
   • Select means of expression for production of work consistent with cultural context and concept.
3. Produce work using cultural knowledge.
   • Produce work which appropriately expresses cultural context and locates own identity.
   • Produce work in accordance with cultural, copyright and intellectual property requirements.

Required Skills

Required skills cultural protocols in relation to the production presentation and distribution of works which express Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander identity protocols for the sharing of information and the expression of information pertaining to cultural works

Required knowledge knowledge and understanding of ownlocal Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander culture copyright moral rights and intellectual property requirements for specific types of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander artwork including issues of appropriation

Evidence Required

The evidence guide provides advice on assessment and must be read in conjunction with the performance criteria required skills and knowledge range statement and the Assessment Guidelines for the Training Package
Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit	The following evidence is critical to the judgement of competence in this unit knowledge of the ways in which cultural information and context can be applied within art practice ability to produce work which appropriately expresses cultural context and identity
Context of and specific resources for assessment	The assessment context must provide for involvement of persons approved of by Elders of the relevant local community in the assessment process
Method of assessment	Assessment may incorporate a range of methods to assess performance and the application of essential underpinning knowledge and might include review of work produced by the candidate oral or written questioning to assess knowledge of issues surrounding cultural protocols for the production of work review of portfolios of evidence third party workplace reports of performance by the candidate
	Assessment of this unit requires access to information sources on protocols for the production of work and other cultural information as agreed by the local community

Range Statement

The range statement relates to the unit of competency as a whole. It allows for different work environments and situations that may affect performance. Cultural information may relate to:	art and music bushcraft/bush food/bush medicine contemporary Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander life and culture cultural sites custodianship of land dance history, pre-European contact and post-European contact tools and implements traditional life and culture.
