Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

anticipating the typical manoeuvring patterns of aircraft

applying safety, legislative and statutory requirements relevant to the risk assessment

approaching operating aircraft from an angle visible to the pilot or aircrew

demonstrating mandatory marshalling signals

identifying hazards, assessing risks and implementing control measures

identifying, interpreting and analysing risk assessment requirements relevant to work being performed

identifying, selecting, inspecting and using personal protective equipment (PPE)

interpreting written rules, regulations, procedures and guidelines

maintaining adequate clearance from rotors and turbine engines, exhaust gases and engine intakes

setting up and marking landing point/landing site/landing zone (LP/LS/LZ).


Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

aircraft danger zones

day and night marshalling signals

effects of wind on aircraft

LP/LS/LZ definitions, dimensions, markings, ground limitations and security requirements

LP/LS/LZ operation, safety regulations and hazards and danger areas of helicopters

manoeuvring patterns of aircraft

relevant organisational policies and procedures

roles, characteristics and capabilities of Defence helicopters and rotary wing aircraft.
