- Identify tasks and collect appropriate information
- Requirement to conduct combat arms tasks is determined from orders, and appropriate standard procedures are identified and applied.
- Constraints imposed on tasks are determined and managed.
- Training requirements are identified and addressed.
- Resource requirements are identified and managed.
- Shortfalls/problems are reported through the chain of command.
- Work health and safety (WHS) requirements and recognised safety precautions including those contained in Australian Defence Force (ADF) procedures, are applied throughout the operation.
- Plan and prepare for combat arms tasks
- Information and intelligence in support of operations is identified and analysed.
- Risk is identified and managed.
- Decision making process is conducted.
- Combat arm elements appropriate to the task are identified and advised.
- In-service resources allocated to the task are managed.
- Plans are adjusted to accord with resource availability.
- Orders are prepared and issued to combat arms organisations indicating their missions, tasks, resources, constraints and limitations.
- Battle procedure is supervised and conducted.
- Liaison is conducted in accordance with operational requirements.

- Appropriate supporting battlespace operating systems are employed and/or coordinated.
- Plans are modified to reflect changes in effort, resources and support.
- Operations are conducted as ordered, reallocating/adjusting resources to meet operational requirements.
- Operations are continuously monitored to ensure efficiency of their conduct and achievement of the mission.
- Liaison and coordination with stakeholders is conducted.
- Reported problems are actioned.
