Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for meteorological operation
   • Equipment is selected and checked for serviceability in accordance with standard procedures.
   • Work health and safety (WHS) requirements and recognised safety precautions are applied throughout the operation in accordance with standard procedures with particular attention to the hazards associated with explosive gases.
   • Equipment is prepared as directed by supervisor.
2. Gather meteorological data
   • Weather balloon or other device is filled and launched in order to collect atmospheric information.
   • Surface data is collected using meteorological equipment.
   • Receiving equipment is operated in accordance with standard procedures.
   • All data is recorded in accordance with standard procedures.
3. Monitor and report meteorological information
   • Meteorological information is communicated as directed by supervisor.
   • Incoming data is monitored to identify changing conditions and any changes are reported to supervisor.
   • Meteorological equipment is maintained and/or refurbished in accordance with standard procedures.
   • Documentation and records are completed and maintained in accordance with standard procedures.
