Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Occupy and prepare a location
   • An appropriate vantage point is occupied and concealment is maintained throughout operation.
   • Occupied position is established in accordance with standard procedures.
   • Reference points are established and documented in accordance with standard procedures.
   • Possible threats are observed and monitored and an appropriate plan of action is prepared.
2. Plan the engagement of firepower
   • Standard terminology is used so that clear communication with all stakeholders is maintained.
   • Target position is established.
   • Altitude of target is determined from map.
   • Communications are maintained with stakeholders throughout the operation and personnel safety in the target area is ensured.
   • Target is described to stakeholders.
   • Type of engagement is determined and instructions are conveyed to the gun line.
3. Direct fire onto target
   • Planning information is transmitted to the command post.
   • Direction to fire is transmitted to the gun line.
   • Target analysis is completed after impact and if appropriate referred to supervisor.
   • Adjustments of fire are completed or terminated as required.
4. Withdraw from an occupied location
   • Occupied position is reconditioned and all evidence of occupation is removed.
   • Secure withdrawal from the occupied position is conducted.
