Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Identify aerospace industry information in Australia
   • Outline the structure of the Australian aerospace industry and the functions of the different sectors
   • Outline the structure of the Defence aerospace organisation and the roles of the three services
   • Identify career opportunities within the Australian and/or Defence aerospace environment and the entry requirements
   • Develop and maintain current knowledge of the aerospace environment
2. Recognise aircraft
   • Identify basic airframe parts of a fixed wing aircraft
   • Identify current Australian Defence Force (ADF) and civilian aircraft
3. Apply WHS/OHS requirements
   • Select and use personal protective equipment
   • Identify hazards, assess risks and implement organisational control measures
   • Observe aircraft hazards and safety distances
   • Maintain basic situational awareness when moving within an aviation workplace
   • Recognise and report unsafe actions or situations to supervisor or other appropriate personnel

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include: applying relevant safety and security practices, operational procedures and regulations complying with relevant operational policies and procedures identifying a mixture of at least ten civilian and military aircrafts identifying and collecting aerospace information identifying hazards, assessing risks and identifying control measures moving safely on a tarmac and within a maintenance facility recognising and anticipating safety and security problems and hazards, and taking appropriate action.

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of: aircraft recognition features Australian Defence Force (ADF) bases from which aircraft operate ADF aerospace services components of an aircraft airframe relevant operational policies and procedures relevant safety and security regulations, rules, policies and procedures roles of ADF aircraft safety and security hazards and risks in the aviation workplace sectors of the aerospace industry.
