Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for fuzing/defuzing operations
   • Identify requirement for fuzing or defuzing of explosive ordnance from work requests/instructions.
   • Identify, acquire and prepare technical references, tools and equipment required for the fuzing or defuzing.
   • Acquire, prepare, move and position explosive ordnance to be fuzed or defuzed in preparation for the task.
   • Identify, calculate, assess and apply net explosive quantities and compatibility throughout the operation.
   • Monitor and maintain environmental conditions.
2. Defuze explosive ordnance
   • Remove fuze from the ammunition/explosive ordnance.
   • Remove fuzing components and inspect the fuze cavity.
   • Apply emergency and contingency procedures.
3. Fuze explosive ordnance
   • Inspect and gauge fuze cavity.
   • Fuze explosive ordnance.
4. Finalise the fuzing/defuzing operation
   • Ensure serviceability of equipment/tools.
   • Maintain documentation and records.

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and includes:

applying environmental constraints applying technical instructions and drawings related to fuzes calculating net explosive quantity conducting housekeeping using tools and equipment working safely within an explosive ordnance environment
