Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Access and analyse relevant explosive chemical information
  2. Implement recommendations specific to explosives
  3. Access and analyse relevant explosive chemical information
  4. Identify and obtain explosives safety, legislative and statutory requirements
  5. Analyse the information obtained to determine the relevance within its application and in the context of the organisation
  6. Formulate outcomes of the analysis and provide recommendations
  7. Implement recommendations specific to explosives
  8. Assess, review and record effectiveness of the recommendations
  9. Adjust recommendations if required and document for future application

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and includes:

adhering to relevant work health and safety requirements and operational safety

analysing and evaluating information

applying safety, legislative and statutory requirements relevant to explosive chemistry

conducting research

identifying relevant information

interpreting organisation role relevant to explosive chemistry

using appropriate information technology and software

writing research reports including recommendations


Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and includes:

operational knowledge of:

decomposition mechanisms of explosives, including:

atmospheric effects on the rate of degradation of an explosive

signs of degradation in explosive fills

explosive process

insensitive munitions

principles of thermodynamics, including:

heats of formation

oxygen balance of explosives

products of detonation

principles of atomic theory, chemical bonding and organic chemistry

properties of explosives and explosive compounds

toxicology of explosives
