Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for firing
   • Identify and clarify requirements for firing of explosives.
   • Confirm firing methods.
   • Liaise with and notify parties affected by the firing.
   • Prepare site/equipment.
   • Identify, calculate and monitor net explosive quantities throughout the operation.
   • Identify, analyse and apply compatibility throughout the operation.
   • Set up test equipment in accordance with instructions.
2. Fire explosive
   • Prepare and test explosives and firing mechanisms.
   • Conduct firings.
   • Inspect residue to ensure all explosives have been fired.
   • Take and record measurements in accordance with instructions.
3. Finalise the firing process
   • Assess recorded measurements against standards and results and document.
   • Maintain and/or refurbish site and equipment.
   • Maintain documentation and records.

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and includes:

accessing, interpreting and applying technical information related to ordnance to be assessed assessing measured results identifying firing requirements and constraints maintaining documentation and records recording results in accordance with firing instructions

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and includes:

operational knowledge of: characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations of explosives to be assessed measuring and recording processes reporting and documentation requirements
