Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for firing
   • Carry and handle other calibre weapon system.
   • Identify, select and handle ammunition.
   • Conduct weapons drills.
   • Adopt fire positions in accordance with the proof, trial and experimental requirement.
   • Prepare and secure static fired weapons.
   • Secure ammunition.
2. Fire weapons
   • Fire weapons in a person fired or static fired mode.
   • Employ weapon sighting systems and associated equipment.
   • Identify and engage targets.
   • Report incidents.
3. Finalise firing and maintain stores and equipment
   • Undertake operator maintenance.
   • Identify and report defects.
   • Refurbish ranges.
   • Complete post-range practice administration.
   • Record and report observations on the firing.

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least two occasions and includes:

handling and operating weapons systems identifying ammunition defects (corrosion, cracks, damaged packing, damaged weapon parts, dented cartridge cases, fluting on cartridge case, incorrect propellants, proud or recessed primer, rust, weeping) one assessment with person fired and one assessment with static fired operating the range of weapons used in the test/trial to conduct all firearm drills

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and includes:

operational knowledge of: firing operation and effect of weapon systems organisational guidelines and standards range safety weapons ballistics
