Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Prepare for small arms ammunition maintenance
  2. Apply work health and safety (WHS) requirements in accordance with organisational procedures throughout the operation
  3. Identify, confirm and obtain small arms ammunition to be maintained, in accordance with technical documentation
  4. Identify, obtain and prepare technical references, tools, equipment, consumables and packaging components in accordance with organisational procedures
  5. Identify, calculate, assess and apply net explosive quantities and compatibility throughout the operation
  6. Monitor and maintain environmental conditions, as required
  7. Maintain small arms ammunition
  8. Conduct relevant maintenance in accordance with organisational procedures, technical specifications and drawings
  9. Apply emergency and contingency procedures, as required
  10. Conduct and record relevant small arms ammunition tests in accordance with organisational procedures, technical specifications and drawings
  11. Complete maintenance activity
  12. Maintain equipment/tools in accordance with organisational procedures and guidelines
  13. Conduct housekeeping procedures in accordance with workshop requirements
  14. Maintain documentation and records in accordance with statutory, organisational and workshop requirements

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

applying relevant operational policies and procedures

applying relevant work health and safety requirements

applying safety, legislative and statutory requirements relevant to the risk assessment

assessing and applying compatibility to identify and calculate net explosive quantities

calculating net explosive quantity

completing maintenance activity

conducting relevant small arms ammunition tests

identifying, selecting and using appropriate tools and equipment

maintaining documentation

preparing for and maintaining small arms ammunition.


Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

assessment of compatibility

effects of environmental conditions

net explosive quantity calculations

operational maintenance procedures

operations, characteristics and limitations of small arms ammunition to be maintained

operations, characteristics and limitations of tools and equipment used in maintenance

relevant documentation requirements

relevant operational policies and procedures, including work health and safety

small arms ammunition maintenance including:

cleaning

components change out

fuzing and defuzing

painting

small arms ammunition testing procedures

storage, distribution or maintenance of explosive ordnance

technical references including:

relevant orders and instructions.

relevant publications

technical drawings

technical reference pamphlets
