Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Safely handle a 22 gauge rifle
   • Handle and carry a 22 gauge rifle.
   • Identify, select and handle ammunition.
   • Secure a 22 gauge rifle.
2. Safely maintain a 22 gauge rifle
   • Strip and assemble a 22 gauge rifle.
   • Clean and service a 22 gauge rifle and associated equipment.
   • Identify and rectify defects within limits of authority or report to supervisor.
   • Complete documentation.
3. Safely operate a 22 gauge rifle
   • Conduct weapon drills.
   • Apply marksmanship principles.
   • Employ weapon equipment.
   • Fire a 22 gauge rifle
   • Comply with range safety brief and practice brief when firing a 22 gauge rifle.
   • Recognise problems and take actions.
   • Identify and engage targets.

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the candidate must demonstrate evidence of performance of the following on at least one occasion.

conducting the following firearm drills:

degrees of weapon readiness

immediate action and stoppage

safety precautions including checking clearances

recognising the limit of own authority

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the depth of knowledge demonstrated must be appropriate to the job context of the candidate.
