Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Occupy and prepare a location
   • Occupy an appropriate vantage point and maintain concealment throughout the operation.
   • Establish occupied position.
   • Establish reference points and document information.
   • Observe and monitor possible threats so that an appropriate plan of action can be prepared by relevant authority.
2. Plan the engagement of firepower
   • Establish target location via a grid reference.
   • Determine altitude of the target from the map.
   • Determine direction from the observer to the target by compass or laser.
   • Describe target to command post.
   • Determine type and number of weapons.
   • Maintain communications with stakeholders throughout the operation and monitor personnel safety.
3. Direct fire on a target
   • Transmit planning information and direction to fire to the command post.
   • Conduct target analysis after impact and refer to supervisor where appropriate.
   • Provide adjustment and advice to terminate as required.
   • Maintain records.
4. Withdraw from an occupied location
   • Recondition occupied position and remove all evidence of occupation.
   • Withdrawal from the occupied position.
