Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Handle a light support weapon
   • Handle and carry light support weapon.
   • Identify, select, handle, secure and maintain ammunition.
   • Conduct weapon drills.
   • Adopt fire positions as required by environment and threat.
2. Apply fire with a light support weapon
   • Employ weapon sighting systems and associated equipment.
   • Identify and engage targets as required by the operational environment.
3. Maintain and stow a light support weapon
   • Clean and service weapon and associated equipment in all operational conditions.
   • Identify and rectify defects within limits of authority or reported to supervisor.
   • Complete documentation.
   • Secure light support weapon.
4. Handle a light support weapon

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the candidate must demonstrate evidence of performance of the following on at least one occasion.

achieving the required effects of fire

applying battle craft

applying fieldcraft skills

applying recognised safety precautions

interpreting fire control orders

carrying out weapon drills including:

checking clearances

degrees of weapon readiness

immediate action and stoppage

safety precautions

stripping and assembling

firing the weapon using, as a minimum, linked ball ammunition

applying a variety of engagement techniques including at least one of:

suppression

destruction

fix

neutralisation

rates of fire

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the depth of knowledge demonstrated must be appropriate to the job context of the candidate.
