Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

applying relevant legislation, and operational policies and procedures

communicating effectively with all stakeholders

enabling sustained environmental health support

identifying key health threats, assessing risks and implementing control measures during environmental health planning

interpreting information to support health planning

making judgements that balance health support and operational imperatives

managing basic projects

managing schedule with competing interests

minimising health threat to the organisation

negotiating complex issues and ideas to arrive at a common understanding

optimising the implementation of health support plans

preparing complex verbal or written health assessments for communication to relevant stakeholders

researching information to aid health support assessment

solving problems.


Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

health support logistics and planning processes

health support resource capabilities

health threat analysis

injury risk assessment and management

organisational structure, and lines of authority and communication within the organisation

principles of health support including:

enable control of health resources by technically qualified personnel best placed to employ them

ensure conformity of health plan with higher operational plans

ensure continuity of health care between levels of treatment and between different agencies involved in treatment

ensure health support maintains its proximity to activity being supported

ensure health support maintains mobility with activity of group being supported

facilitate provision of initial wound surgery within three hours of being injured

facilitate provision of resuscitation by a medical officer within an hour of being injured

prevent injury and illness

provide immediate first aid to an injured person

maintain flexibility to adapt health plan to changing circumstances of Australian Defence Force (ADF) operations

relevant legislation, and organisational policies and procedures

relevant organisational standing and routine orders

structure and function of ADF health services

theory of health support

vectors of disease.
