Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for controlling TAR activities
   • Identify and obtain relevant instructions in accordance with TAR Standing Orders
   • Clarify and agree purpose and outcomes of user activities in accordance with TAR Standing Orders
   • Establish clearances and access to activities in accordance with TAR Standing Orders
2. Confirm range instructions conform to Standing Orders
   • Confirm the suitability of weapons and ammunition to be fired on the requested range
   • Identify non-compliant training activities and indicate non-compliance to relevant commanders
   • Conduct gross error checks on traces and templates
   • Confirm contingency plans and safety requirements
   • Forward compliant training area and range instructions to approving authorities
3. Control TAR activities
   • Resolve coordination issues through direct contact and discussions with users
   • Control access and exit to ranges and training area
   • Control movement within the training area
   • Grant approval for commencement of practices
4. Review and maintain TAR Standing Orders
   • Review TAR Standing Orders
   • Identify changes that are required
   • Maintain TAR Standing Orders
5. Report on TAR activities
   • Raise reports in accordance with TAR Standing Orders and relevant instructions
   • Disseminate reports to relevant authorities in accordance with TAR Standing Orders and relevant contracts

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include: accessing, interpreting and applying relevant legislation and training area and range (TAR) guidance, including at least two of the following: Defence policy work health and safety (WHS) legislation TAR Standing Orders TAR operating plans emergency plans environmental plans checking ammunition safety traces and danger area templates evaluating compliance of and controlling TAR activities following instructions/directives and reporting information reading technical specifications, maps and diagrams reviewing and maintaining TAR Standing Orders.

Knowledge Evidence
