Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare to inspect TAR
   • Determine inspection requirements
   • Research relevant data on sites to be inspected
   • Obtain clearances for TAR access
2. Inspect TAR infrastructure
   • Confirm that TAR infrastructure is safe and fit for purpose
   • Identify problems and record for later resolution
   • Discuss problems with relevant authorities and determine remedial action
   • Initiate remedial action and procedures
   • Monitor progress of remedial action
3. Implement and monitor emergency and environmental plans
   • Environmental and emergency plans and reports are drafted
   • Submit plan or report for approval
   • Distribute approved plan or report
   • Monitor TAR environment and sustainability in accordance with approved plan or report requirements
4. Monitor TAR contamination and hazards
   • Identify and record TAR contamination and hazards
   • Discuss contamination and hazard problems with relevant authorities and determine remedial action
   • Initiate remedial action and procedures
   • Monitor progress of remedial action
   • Provide contamination and hazard advice to TAR users

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include: accessing, interpreting and applying relevant legislation and training area and range (TAR) guidance, including at least two of the following: Defence policy work health and safety (WHS) legislation TAR Standing Orders TAR Operating Plans emergency plans environmental plan applying and monitoring environmental plans following instructions/directives and reporting information identifying and monitoring contaminants and hazards inspecting TAR infrastructure reading technical specifications, maps and diagrams.

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of: decontamination processes environmental plans maintenance and remedial processes safety aspects of TAR infrastructure standing operating instructions TAR contaminants and hazards TAR Standing Orders.
