Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare for splitting
- Applicable Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), environmental, legislative and organisational requirements relevant to splitting wood products are identified and followed
- Work order is reviewed and checked with appropriate personnel
- Type and quantity of products to be split are identified and appropriate arrangements made
- Equipment is selected appropriate to work requirements and checked for operational effectiveness in line with manufacturer's recommendations
- Splitting process is planned in line with site procedures
- Communication with others is established and maintained in line with OHS requirements
- Split wood products
- Pre start-up checks are carried out on equipment in line with site requirements
- Material is fed into the equipment at the feed rate prescribed by organisational requirements
- Splitting process is maintained and adjusted to produce the required quantity of product and maximise the feed rate
- Splitting process is regularly checked and adjusted to maintain the desired quality and output
- Unsatisfactory product is segregated or rejected and disposed of in line with site procedures and environmental requirements
- Splitting process and equipment faults are recorded and reported to the appropriate personnel
- Product is safely directed to storage in a designated location in line with work order requirements
- Conduct operator maintenance
- Equipment lock-out procedures are followed in line with OHS legislation and site procedures
- Splitting saw is checked for blunt or damaged condition in line with site procedures
- Blunt or damaged splitting equipment is identified and dealt with in line with site procedures, manufacturer's recommendations and environmental requirements
- Machine area is kept clear of dust and debris in line with OHS requirements
