Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Estimate and make measurements for work
   • Extract and interpret measurement information embedded in workplace texts and tasks
   • Identify and select appropriate workplace measuring equipment
   • Estimate and make accurate measurements
2. Undertake mathematical calculations involving measurement
   • Calculate the area of 2D shapes including compound shapes
   • Calculate the volume of 3D shapes using relevant formulas
   • Calculate sides of right angled triangles using Pythagoras’ theorem
   • Perform conversions between units of measurement
   • Use problem solving processes to undertake the task
3. Check and communicate results
   • Review and check the measurement outcomes
   • Record the information using mathematical language and symbols appropriate for the task

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

make accurate measurements

calculate area and volume of shapes including compound shapes

calculate sides of triangles using Pythagoras’ theorem

make conversions between units.

Note: Where a specific volume and/or frequency is not specified, evidence must be provided at least once.
