Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:

follow organisational policies and procedures relevant to maintaining quality and product care

maintain quality and product care in line with workplace procedures and environmental care

maintain effective communication and safe work practices.


Knowledge Evidence

A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

workplace procedures relating to the maintenance of quality and product care specified in performance evidence:

communicating product requirements and work output

product care and processing

identifying and resolving faults with product

maximising product or resource use

assessing timber for recovery

recording and reporting workplace information

product specifications in relation to:

specifications set for optimisation of timber set in line with the available resource

customer requirements

industry standard cross sections and lengths

enterprise standards

environmental protection requirements in relation to:

identifying environmental hazards and identifying their risk

safely disposing of waste material

organisational guidelines for recycling defective product, off-cuts and residue

minimising carbon emissions

minimising impact of the use of machinery and equipment on the environment

mathematical procedures for estimating and measuring product against specifications

optimisation of timber

requirements of the following quality systems that would apply to product care and quality:

enterprise-based system

ISO9000 series

second party certification

third party certification

types of tools and equipment used in the product process, and procedures for their safe use and maintenance

assessing visual appearance of products including:

appropriateness of defects

contamination

timber colours

insect attack

surface finishes

holes

breakages

machine caused defects

work health and safety policies and procedures relevant to product care and quality:

personal protective equipment and clothing

safety equipment

first aid equipment

hazard identification and risk control

fatigue management

elimination of hazardous materials and substances

identifying hazards in the work process and assessing and controlling their risk

manual handling techniques

machine isolation and guarding.
