Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare for edge banding
- Review work order and where required check with appropriate personnel.
- Identify type and quantity of panels to be edge banded and obtain panels.
- Select appropriate equipment and check for operational effectiveness in line with manufacturer's recommendations.
- Select edge banding process in line with work order.
- Set up edge banding equipment
- Follow lock out procedures, set machine to suit material to be edged and adjust as required.
- Use equipment in line with organisational safety procedures, manufacturer’s instructions environmental protection practices.
- Conduct test runs to check machine operation, accuracy and quality of finished work and make adjustments to machine settings.
- Use suitable tested materials for processing or reject and dispose of in line with environmental protection practices.
- Apply edging
- Feed panels into machine in line with manufacturer's instructions and safety procedures.
- Monitor machine operations to ensure product quality and output.
- Minimise waste by checking trim distances for cut off on each panel.
- Repair sub-standard panels, dispose of or recycle in line with environmental protection practices.
- Identify routine processing and equipment faults and resolve or report to appropriate personnel.
- Complete production and quality records and report in line with organisational procedures.
- Complete operator maintenance
- Follow organisational safety procedures to lock out equipment.
- Check edging mechanisms for bluntness and build-up of glue and rectify.
- Check and reload edge treatments in line with manufacturer recommendations.
- Clear dust and debris from machine area.
- Record and report equipment faults and maintenance requirements to appropriate personnel.
