Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:

interpret plans, loading conditions and technical information and conveying information in written, sketch and oral form

use a scientific calculator and appropriate computer software to estimate truss, beam and frame materials and quantities

produce quotations within designated timeframes


Knowledge Evidence

A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

applicable building and structural regulations for timber wall frames, roof and floor trusses

common industry terminology for all components of timber wall frames, roof and floor trusses

common industry standard layouts, spacing and sizing dimensions of individual members for timber wall frames, roof and floor trusses

relationship between component loads and supports and spans

for the software:

system functions and capabilities

methods to input and amend design factors and other data

methods used to estimate truss, beam and frame materials and quantities

methods to store and retrieve quotations and other data

industry and specific organisational:

computerised quotation processes for timber wall frames, roof and floor trusses

sources of costs for materials and labour to manufacture

formats for and inclusions of quotations

organisational procedures for preparing and documenting computerised quotations for timber wall frames, roof and floor trusses.
