Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:

follow organisational and quality procedures for testing heavy structural/engineered products

safely and efficiently collect data

accurately interpret test results

identify problems that may affect test results

complete accurate records and reports.


Knowledge Evidence

A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

different types of products that might require testing and methods suitable for conducting those tests

benchmarks or standards for products being tested

issues that might affect function or suitability of structural/engineered products

problems associated with the testing process: test accuracy; sample quality; faulty material; defects

testing methods for modulus of elasticity, surface hardness, modulus of rupture, sheer strength and compression strength

types of tools and equipment used for testing heavy structural/engineered products and maintenance [procedures for those tools and equipment]

criteria for recycling, re-using, repairing or disposing of faulty products

procedures for recording and reporting workplace information.
