Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:

maintain visitor sites by:

lawn mowing and edging

raking leaves

cleaning toilets, shower blocks and other structures

supplying firewood

repainting and other minor repairs

removing rubbish

follow regulatory and workplace requirements and codes of practice relevant to maintaining visitor sites

check and order supplies of consumables for cleaning relevant to maintaining visitor sites including:

toilet paper

cleaning chemicals

lawn mower fuel

paint

select and use types of cleaning and maintenance equipment including:

manual cleaning tools

power tools

petrol-driven lawn mowers

whipper snipper and edger

undertake efficient and safe selection, use, transport and storage of equipment and supplies with no damage to equipment, property, environment, colleagues or the public

identify site hazards or unsafe facilities including:

contaminated waste material

visitors moving around adjacent to maintenance activities

unsafe structures

deteriorated structures

natural features or facilities

and demonstrate an appropriate response, including reporting to supervisor

handle and remove waste or contaminated material including:

blood

bandages

sanitary bins

effluent

garbage

sharps

identify, note and report problems including:

deteriorated or vandalised structures

record and report manually, in a computer based system or other appropriate organisational communication system:

problems including deteriorated or vandalised structures and natural features and facilities that do not meet enterprise acceptable standards

maintenance outcomes

hazards and incidents

equipment malfunctions and damage


Knowledge Evidence

A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

environmental protection requirements, including:

waste minimisation

the safe disposal of waste material

implementing recycling and reuse guidelines

the safe use and storage of chemicals

the minimisation of environmental impact

cleaning of plant, tools and equipment

work place and site standards, requirements, policies and procedures for maintaining visitor sites including:

camp grounds

toilet and shower blocks

natural features

identification and handling procedures relevant to environmental risks and hazards, including:

contaminated waste material

visitors moving around adjacent to maintenance activities

unsafe structures

deteriorated structures

natural features or facilities

types of cleaning and maintenance equipment and procedures for their safe use, including:

manual cleaning tools

power tools

petrol-driven lawn mowers

whipper snipper and edger

types of maintenance supplies and consumables, including:

toilet paper

cleaning chemicals

lawn mower fuel

paint

procedures for the safe use and maintenance of cleaning and maintenance tools and equipment, including:

selection of appropriate cleaning and maintenance equipment

checking and ordering supplies of consumable items

transporting and storing equipment

operation of septic tanks and other plumbing associated with visitor use facilities

established communication channels and protocols

procedures and practices for recording and reporting workplace information on a manual or computer based system or other appropriate communication system.
