Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Prepare for monitoring
  2. Implement assessment of regeneration rates
  3. Monitor and review assessment

Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:

coordinate people, resources and equipment for the efficient monitoring of regeneration

identify methods of improvement for the monitoring of regeneration

A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

organisational and site standards, requirements, policies and procedures for monitoring regeneration rates

environmental risks and hazards in a forest setting

types and rates of regeneration of the following

seeding

seedlings

coppice

assessment techniques for regeneration rates, including

monitoring germination and survival rates

observing the effects of browsing, the distribution of new growth in square metres and regeneration rates

calculating basal areas

types of tools, and equipment used for measuring regeneration in a forest, and procedures for their safe use and maintenance.
