Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:

follow organisational policies and procedures for managing tending operations in a plantation

identify and obtain applicable licensing or certification requirements for tending operations

use consultative processes with colleagues and stakeholders to obtain inputs in developing a plan for tending operations

develop and implement a plan for tending operations

manage tending operations to meet established outcomes

keep accurate records on the tending process and make recommendations for improvements in the tending process.


Knowledge Evidence

A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

environmental protection requirements for a forest including

soil disturbance measures

retention tree damage

fungal hygiene measures

identification of habitat trees

chemical handling and application procedures

organisational policies and procedures for managing tending operations in a forest including

end product requirements

stand treatment certification documentation

contractual requirements and obligations

environmental and public relations imperatives

current state of the forest resource

tending operations that are designed to:

maintain the health of the stand

improve productivity and long term sustainability

the management of notifiable weeds

impact of tending operations on forest productivity and various end products

authorisations and permits including

permits

approvals

licences relating to neighbouring properties

and may relate to:

hours of operation

use and application of chemicals

the environment

biology of relevant forest health problems

target species growth and development

weed species and herbicide interactions

hydrology and hydrological principles

plant identification and plant classification

ecology and ecological interactions

soil types and structure

procedures for recording and reporting workplace information.
