Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:

plan a native forest regeneration operation with reference to organisational objectives, policies and procedures

use consultative processes with colleagues and stakeholders to determine performance criteria, specifications and targets

ensure efficient and safe processes and timelines

safely implement native forest regeneration activities according to a documented plan and budget, and making adjustments to the plan or operation

review and analyse operations and outcomes

use data to document improvements to future operations

maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation

prepare a report on costs, processes and analysis of findings on the regeneration operation.


Knowledge Evidence

A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

applicable commonwealth, state or territory legislation, regulations, standards, codes of practice for native forests

organisational policies and procedures relating to native forest regeneration

environmental protection requirements for native forests including

soil disturbance measures

retention tree damage

fungal hygiene measures

identification of habitat trees

chemical handling and application procedures.

Authorisations and permits relevant to forest regeneration plans

permits

approvals

licences relating to neighbouring properties

and may relate to:

hours of operation

use and application of chemicals

the environment

methods of regeneration including

prescription burning

infill planting to support directional natural regeneration

pathways

direct seeding

crop tree retention

consultation aspects and stakeholders that are relevant to native forest regeneration plans including

clients

neighbours

relevant groups/bodies

local, State and federal government bodies and agencies

local interest/lobby groups

friends' groups

representatives of industry bodies

biology of the target species

hydrology and hydrological principles

plant identification and classification skills

ecology and ecological interactions

seed collecting and distribution seasons for the target species

organisational marketing, business and strategic plans

original and potential ecosystems for the target area

common diseases, pests and nutritional deficiencies

soil types and structure

procedures for recording workplace information.
