Elements and Performance Criteria
- Plan and prepare for chipping
- Review work order and clarify with appropriate personnel.
- Identify and assess type and quantity of timber to be chipped to meet requirements for work order and safe working conditions.
- Select equipment to meet to work requirements and check for operational effectiveness.
- Plan chipping activities in line with site procedures and environmental and heritage concerns
- Position and set-up chipper to ensure stability and to effectively chip wood
- Communication with others is established and maintained in line with WHS requirements.
- Chip timber
- Carry out pre-operational checks on the heavy production mobile chipper.
- Start up chipper according to safe workplace requirements
- Detect site hazards associated with chipper and plan safe operating techniques to minimise risk.
- Direct timber into the chipper at a rate applicable to the capacity of the machinery and chip size specified in the work order.
- Direct chipped timber into the back of a truck or other modes of transportation or for stockpile.
- Establish and maintain communication with truck driver to ensure efficient and safe loading of chipped materials
- Carry out machine operator maintenance
- Lock-out chipper and shut down if required, in line with site procedures.
- Conduct visual inspection to identify issues and faults.
- Remove and replace worn components as required to fulfil the work order.
- Clean, check and carry out routine maintenance tasks on chipper.
- Record and report chipper operations, faults and maintenance activities.
