Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:

follow organisational policies and procedures relevant to assembling materials using nail plates

assemble materials using nail plates in line with a work order and construction plans

strap, pack and label bundles of completed products

compressor or compressed air supply

types of materials for assembling with nail plates and their purpose

assembly sequences

compliantly and construction standards

typical assembly faults triggering correction to ensure product quality:

incorrectly positioned joints

timber splits from nailing

incorrectly positioned nail plates

industry standard cross-sections, lengths and tolerances

environmental protection practices for forest products factory settings:

reducing water and energy use

cleaning plant, tools and equipment

disposing of, recycling and reusing timber

typical timber defects and how these affect ability to produce a quality finished product:

warp

wane

cupping

shakes

insect defects

knots

resin pockets

storage layout and categories for stacking finished materials

organisational procedures specific to assembling materials using nail plates:

workplace health and safety with particular emphasis on equipment lock out

use of equipment

communication reporting lines

recording and reporting production outcomes and equipment faults.
