Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare for filing and saw setting
- Review work order and where required check with appropriate personnel.
- Select appropriate repair, maintenance and personal protective equipment and check for operational effectiveness in line with manufacturer's recommendations.
- Plan setting process in line with work order.
- Follow organisational safety procedures thoughout all maintenance and repair processes.
- Set up saw in selected jig to enable setting work.
- Check kerf and finish requirements to suit machine horsepower, saw type and cutting conditions.
- Examine individual teeth to check amount of setting required.
- Maintain welding condition, saw temper and consistency of set between alternate teeth.
- Measure and assess teeth for correct setting.
- Bevel teeth and assess bevel length.
- Apply set to teeth and allow for estimated spring back.
- Check set to teeth using gauges in line with organisational procedures.
- Identify routine processing and equipment faults and resolve or report to appropriate personnel.
