Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:

follow organisational policies and procedures relevant to transferring wood chips.

transfer wood chips in line with a work order and within prescribed organisational requirements

direct woodchips to the transport arrangements and stockpiles in line with organisational requirements and OHS regulations


Knowledge Evidence

A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

purpose, features and operation of equipment used for transferring wood chips:

conveyors, chutes or track systems that move processed wood chips from the screening system to the transfer process

chip slingers

air blowers

stages of the wood chip production, screening and transfer process

typical flow of material supply in and out of the wood chip production area

range of categories used for wood chips and visual characteristics:

species

size

moisture content

methods to label wood chips in stockpiles and common terms used

environmental protection practices for forest products factory settings:

cleaning of plant, tools and equipment

reducing water and energy use

disposing of, recycling and reusing timber

organisational policies and procedures specific to transferring wood chips:

workplace health and safety with particular emphasis use of personal protective and other equipment

communication reporting lines

recording and reporting processing and equipment faults.
