Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:

complete repairs in line with individual work orders for the following types of material:

single thickness veneer

panel products

manufactured plywood

select and use the appropriate filler to complete repairs

complete repairs for the following types of defects:

splits

voids

splintered and missing edges

for each of the above jobs, visually inspect materials and re-classify their quality and use after repair.


Knowledge Evidence

A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

environmental protection practices for repairing veneer and ply:

cleaning plant, tools and equipment

disposing of, recycling and reusing timber

disposing of hazardous substances

typical flow of material supply in and out of the repair area

features of typical defects in single thickness veneer, panel products and manufactured plywood:

splits

voids

splintered and missing edges

typical work flow processes and repair techniques used to fill veneer, panel and plywood to an acceptable level for continued use

properties, at a basic level of understanding, of fillers and their uses for repairing veneer, panel and plywood:

ready to use pre-mix fillers

two part fillers

waxes

methods used to:

mix fillers

safely store fillers

key features of and applicable terminology for industry standard grades for re-classifying quality of repaired veneer, panel and plywood

organisational procedures specific to repairing veneer and ply:

workplace health and safety with particular emphasis on use of personal protective equipment and handling hazardous substances

communication reporting lines

recording and reporting production outcomes.
