Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:

join veneer using the following techniques in line with individual work orders that prescribe different lengths, widths, thicknesses and quantities for each job:

stitching

gluing

taping

match veneer according to:

grain

grade

length

colour

for each of the above jobs, visually inspect joined veneer and grade according to industry and organisational standards.

A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

environmental protection practices for forest products factory settings:

reducing water and energy use

cleaning plant, tools and equipment

disposing of, recycling and reusing timber

disposing of hazardous substances

typical flow of material supply in and out of the veneer production area

methods used to visually assess condition of veneer for strength and typical production defects:

purpose, features and operation of equipment used to match and join veneer:

methods used to safely store glue

key features of and applicable terminology for industry standard grades for joined veneer

organisational procedures specific to matching and joining veneer:
