Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for joining veneer
   • Review work order and where required check with appropriate personnel.
   • Select appropriate personal protective equipment and check for operational effectiveness.
   • Obtain type and quantity of veneer for matching and joining from veneer production process.
   • Select matching and joining process in line with work order.
2. Match and join veneer
   • Use equipment in line with organisational safety procedures, manufacturer’s instructions and environmental protection practices.
   • Complete pre start-up equipment checks to ensure operational effectiveness.
   • Set machine functions and feed rate for optimal product recovery.
   • Select joining method in line with veneer to be matched.
   • Inspect sheets visually and match veneer to specification.
   • Clip sheets to provide clean edges and join in line with work order.
   • Assess veneer visually throughout joining process for strength and production defects.
3. Redistribute material
   • Assess joins and grade veneer in line with organisational procedures and industry standards.
   • Direct material to storage or processing operations in line with organisational procedures.
   • Dispose of sub-standard material and excess glue in line with environmental protection practices.
   • Clean work area and store unused glue in line with organisational safety procedures.
   • Record and report production outcomes and equipment faults to appropriate personnel.

Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:
