Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:

clip veneer to form a straight edge and remove these types of defects in line with individual work orders that prescribe different dimensions and quantities:

uneven edges

split edges

excessive knots

for each of the above jobs, visually inspect veneer to re-classify its quality and use after clipping.


Knowledge Evidence

A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

environmental protection practices for forest products factory settings:

reducing water and energy use

cleaning plant, tools and equipment

disposing of, recycling and reusing veneer

typical flow of material supply in and out of the veneer clipping area

typical work flow processes and veneer clipping techniques for optimising use of veneer panels

methods used to visually assess condition of veneer for dimension, typical production and other defects:

wane

knots

splits

uneven edges

key features of industry standard grades for re-classifying quality of clipped veneer and applicable terminology

purpose, features and operation of equipment used to clip veneer:

measuring tapes

dial gauges

clipping machines

guillotines

conveyor belt systems

different types of lifting equipment:

fork lifts

slings

trolley jacks

gantry cranes

loaders

organisational procedures specific to clipping veneer:

workplace health and safety with particular emphasis on equipment lock out and use of personal protective equipment

communication reporting lines

recording and reporting production outcomes and equipment faults.
