- Identify burn and scald risk factors
- Demonstrate respect for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community values, beliefs and gender roles when assessing burn and scald hazards
- Establish high-risk age groups, families or community members
- Identify the perceptions that high-risk groups have of risk-taking behaviour
- Undertake risk assessment of client’s environment to identify potential burn and scald hazards
- Complete risk assessment of potential burn and scald hazards within the workplace and community setting
- Research national burns epidemiology for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, to raise burns awareness
- Provide prevention information and education
- Communicate basic steps of burns first aid to client or community member
- Demonstrate safer practices for identified burn and scald hazards
- Deliver prevention information and education to clients or community members
- Provide appropriate burns prevention and education literature and resources to clients and community members
- Identify burn or scald prevention infrastructure legislation in housing standards and inform clients and community members
- Identify and make contact with services from which mechanical prevention aids can be obtained and installed (i.e. smoke alarms)
- Evaluate burns and scalds prevention strategies
- Evaluate prevention strategies according to workplace policy and procedures
- Monitor incidence and severity of burn or scald injuries in the community
- Obtain feedback from clients and community members in relation to prevention and education strategies implemented
- Identify burns prevention programs and other resources available to the community
- Identify and share successful burns prevention strategies with other communities
