Performance Evidence

The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that the candidate has:

followed established procedures, work processes and national standards for sterile stock management on at least 3 occasions, including:

maintaining environmental conditions

maintaining stock at required levels

handling stock that maintains sterile condition

responding to non-conformance

accurately completed documentation using manual or computerised systems

addressed relevant work health and safety, infection control and manual handling requirements


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the work role. This includes knowledge of:

storage and stock management principles for sterile stock:

types of storage requirements

time-related shelf life

event-related shelf life

factors that affect shelf-life of sterile stock

procedures to restrict access

quality assurance documentation

recall procedures

features of a transport system required to maintain sterility of packaged items

safe work practices in the sterilisation work area:

manual task risk factors and how to control for them

infection control

personal hygiene

personal protective equipment (PPE)
