Elements and Performance Criteria

2. Plan for monitoring and maintenance
   • Contribute to determination of scope and nature of monitoring and maintenance requirements
   • Address needs for preventative maintenance as part of the planning process
   • Prepare work schedules according to operational requirements and manufacturer’s guidelines
3. Monitor and maintain equipment performance
   • Complete planned and random checks of equipment performance
   • Evaluate numerical and technical data to validate equipment performance and identify issues
   • Troubleshoot discrepancies in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines
   • Report issues beyond scope of responsibility without delay and according to organisation procedures
   • Liaise with maintenance personnel as required
   • Assist with implementation of contingency plans and review of critical incidents according to job role
4. Maintain records and reports
   • Ensure that monitoring, maintenance and repair records are complete, correct and within the work area
   • Evaluate and act upon non-compliant records and reports
   • Assist with management of recall processes
   • Maintain and upgrade equipment information according to current requirements
5. Review performance
   • Evaluate equipment performance and determine the need for changes to related work processes
   • Seek feedback from colleagues and end users
   • Assess the need for new equipment based on monitoring and provide input to purchase and commissioning
   • Provide input to management processes based on reviews undertaken

Performance Evidence

The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that the candidate has:

assisted with the development, implementation and evaluation of monitoring and maintenance plans for at least 2 types of cleaning equipment including at least 1 type of steriliser

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the work role. This includes knowledge of:

features, functions and tracking and monitoring systems of different reprocessing equipment:

ultrasonic washers

washer-disinfectors

automated lubrication devices

leak testers

dryers

insulation testers

steam sterilisers

heat sealers

low temperature sterilisers

administration and record keeping requirements:

testing and monitoring

validation requirements

maintenance and repair

recall systems

reporting as per AS/NZS 4187
