Problem solving skills for a defined range of unpredictable problems involving participation in the development of strategic initiatives eg options such as tender invitation etc are considered and recommendations on preferred method are made

Plain English literacy and communication skills in relation to analysis evaluation and presentation of information eg when contracts are reviewed and prepared for review by appropriate person

Teamwork skills involving the contribution to solutions and goals of a nonroutine or contingency nature eg when delivery arrangements are identified with suppliers and are confirmed with client and installation responsibilities are clarified with suppliers against implementation plan

Facilitation and presentation skills in relation to transferring and collecting information and gaining consensus on concepts eg when evaluation and selection based on the vendors ability to meet specific technical criteria is participated in

The acquisition approach should involve clear identification and specification of the business and technical requirements and identification of the selection criteria and seek to identify the qualifications of vendors invited to submit proposals The selection of a tender should be made against identified benchmarks

The competency reflects the workplace by providing for several approaches and an emphasis on researching and analysing alternative options in dealing with vendors when acquiring IT components It covers testing comparisons and evaluations based on the abovementioned elements plus consideration of such other factors as aftersales service and reliability

The breadth depth and complexity covering planning and initiation of alternative approaches to skills or knowledge applications across a broad range of technical andor management requirements evaluation and coordination would be characteristic

Assessment must ensure

The demonstration of competency may also require selfdirected application of knowledge and skills with substantial depth in some areas where judgement is required in planning and selecting appropriate equipment services and techniques for self and others

Competency in this unit should be assessed using summative assessment to ensure consistency of performance in a range of contexts This unit can be assessed either in the workplace or in a simulated environment However simulated activities must closely reflect the workplace to enable full demonstration of competency

Assessment will usually include observation of real or simulated work processes and procedures andor performance in a project context as well as questioning on underpinning knowledge and skills The questioning of team members supervisors subordinates peers and clients where appropriate may provide valuable input to the assessment process The interdependence of units for assessment purposes may vary with the particular project or scenario
