Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Set up and maintain proofing equipment
  2. Expose and process proof

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

prepare and set up proofing area to produce digital or chemical proofs of TWO four-colour separated images according to listed performance criteria. (Since underlying skills associated with digital or chemical proofing should be transferable across a range of systems, it is important to identify substrates along with the associated printing process that is being simulated.)

position images accurately on proof according to job specifications so proof is ready for the next stage

find and use information relevant to the task from a variety of information sources.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

describe work health and safety (WHS) issues in proofing area

outline main considerations for setting up the proofing environment

explain how correct exposure levels for the proofing system are chosen

identify actinic light requirements

name aids used to control and ensure repeatability in proofing

describe considerations when matching a proof to output requirements

identify correct stock for output device

explain how incorrect processing of chemical proof is identified

outline corrective action to take if incorrect processing occurs

list main criteria for proof evaluation

describe lighting conditions required for evaluating proofs

list special requirements for Pantone Matching System (PMS) proofs

list manuals, safety and other documentation relevant to this task and identify where they are kept and what information is included.
