- Assess production requirements
- Requirements of printing process and job specification are assessed
- Quality of job elements, including resolution or dots per inch (DPI) are maintained according to client requirements
- Films, dye cartridges, qualities and process requirements are determined
- Stock levels are checked, recorded and maintained according to job specifications
- Copy is checked and assessed according to job specifications
- Prepare and operate equipment
- Scanner and computer is selected and artwork or copy is placed squarely in scanner
- Scanner software is selected and correct settings are made according to job requirements
- Previews are made, images selected, finished scan completed and image adjusted as required
- Image format is determined and saved to storage device
- Select and use appropriate software
- Imaging software is selected and scan opened
- Separation is provided on individual layers according to job specifications
- Colours are excluded as required on separation layers
- Separation layers are coloured for specific RIP software requirements
- Image or layers or separations are manually nested if required in accordance with film output device size
- Image format is determined according to RIP software requirements
- Supplied finished artwork or separation is checked for output suitability
- Select and operate appropriate equipment
- RIP software is selected and opened
- Image setter or dye printer is selected and checked, and heads cleaned prior to outputting images
- Nesting is checked to ensure non-wastage of film
- Image is evaluated against job specifications and corrected if required
- Film is handled and output device is closed down according to manufacturer recommendations
