Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Monitor operation of JIT system
   • Track value of key measures
   • Recognise indicators of poor performance
   • Take appropriate quick fix action
2. Liaise with relevant stakeholders
   • Regularly communicate with team members regarding operation of the JIT system
   • Communicate with relevant personnel up and down the value chain regarding operation of the JIT system
   • Identify issues with stakeholders and take appropriate quick fix action
3. Improve JIT system
   • Identify areas requiring improvement in the JIT system
   • Recognise competency gaps of team members and other stakeholders
   • Recognise attitudinal issues of team members and other stakeholders
   • Develop appropriate improvement solutions
   • Liaise with relevant people regarding these solutions
   • Implement/assist with implementation of the solutions

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

facilitate smooth operation of a just-in-time (JIT) system in a specific area across an extended period of time

make recommendations to improve a JIT system.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

summarise negotiation techniques

explain JIT principles relevant to job(s)

outline procedures for making/recommending improvements

identify reasons for delays/storages/inventories in that section of the value chain under their control and methods to reduce/eliminate them

explain competency gap analysis and methods of filling competency gaps

describe principles of the manufacturing process relevant to the section/team

outline production data generated by the process, and its application to JIT.
