Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

communicate with stakeholders to set up the site for a cabling cutover job

use project plan to determine cable route and necessary fittings for installation

use project plan to prepare detailed cut over plan including any anticipated outages that may affect service level agreements (SLAs)

follow client practices for the placement and sealing of the cables

separate, label and joint cable units and pairs to client practices

test cable, rectify faults, record results and action taken

seal all joints and cabinets according to enterprise agreements

comply with relevant work health and safety (WHS) requirements

place and secure cables and mark up As Built plans

hand over completed job to client.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.


Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

describe common cabling types, connectors and cabling structures

outline requirements of legislation, codes of practice and other formal agreements that impact on the work activity

describe how the manufacturer’s jointing and sealing practices can be followed in a safe manner

explain the process of cutting over a cable for various scenarios

specify the WHS requirements relating to setting up an outdoor site and accessing underground facilities

describe the features and operating conditions of test equipment and how the equipment is used to measure cable performance

identify typical issues and challenges that may cause delays in job completion, and how these could be addressed

describe the purpose of warranties and SLAs.
