Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare for cable modification and cutover
- Obtain relevant legislation, codes, client practices, regulations and standards for given work
- Obtain project plan from appropriate personnel and use it to scope work
- Arrange for site access according to local government and other authority requirements
- Inspect site to develop a work health and safety (WHS) plan and notify appropriate personnel of identified safety hazards
- Determine cable route and type of cable from project plan, and identify and avoid other services
- Determine large size cable handling and support facilities
- Obtain plant, tools, safety equipment and material to perform tasks safely and efficiently
- Prepare implementation plan with cutover tasks based on identified nature of job and seek client approval, if required
- Notify client and network carrier of proposed cutover details and proposed disruption to services
- Undertake additional preparatory non-jointing work, as required, according to client practices and site conditions
- Coordinate labour required for remote cutover of large size cable

- Follow WHS and environmental requirements for given work
- Notify appropriate personnel of cable pressure and equipment alarms
- Prepare joint enclosure and jointing cabinet for cutover cable entry, jointing activities and entry port enclosure sealing
- Set up jointing machines and jigs for jointing
- Joint cable according to jointing sequence, materials, joint type, location, and client practices and manufacturer’s guidelines and to meet service level agreements (SLAs)
- Test cable for performance, rectify and rectify any faults relating to cutover according to location, materials available and client practice
- Seal all joints according to cable type, location, and enterprise and manufacturer’s guidelines
- Arrange cables and secure site
- Complete project documentation
