Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Assess digital camera qualities
   • Assess camera software compatibility with hardware systems and select appropriate software for the production
   • Select a pixel resolution on the camera to achieve the required quality and resolution of outcome
   • Check the storage capacity of the camera to identify the number of images required to be captured
   • Assess camera features suitable to the quality, and use of, the digital images required
   • Handle and store lithium batteries according to work health and safety (WHS) requirements
2. Photograph an image
   • Consider camera features, when operating the camera, to ensure that the capture of the image meets production requirements
   • Load and operate the camera, according to the manufacturer’s specifications, and as appropriate to the quality of image to be photographed
   • Capture digital images using designated file formats
3. Edit a digital image
   • Ensure the correct use of digital image software, including entering and exiting the selected software
   • Create and store digital image files on a computer according to software procedures
   • Enhance, crop and alter digital images electronically, to deliver the required image
   • Check digital images for suitability and compliance with specifications
   • Save and retrieve digital images using designated file formats
   • Assess digital images for the delivery mode
4. Incorporate digital images into an interactive sequence
   • Create graphics that incorporate the principles of design using digital image software
   • Edit, enhance, amend and save digital images using digital image software
   • Combine digital images into a designated interactive sequence
   • Integrate the digital images into a designated interactive sequence
   • Evaluate the outcome for purpose, visual impact and effectiveness

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

demonstrate the operation of a digital camera in order to capture a range of images

assemble the appropriate tools and procedures required to produce digital images

demonstrate using digital imaging software to prepare high quality digital images that satisfy a range of customer or business requirements.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

describe the functions and features of a range of delivery platforms

describe digital photographic techniques

explain the basic principles of communication through visual design

describe the implications of technology connectivity

explain work health and safety (WHS) requirements for the use of cameras, and computers, and the handling and disposing of lithium batteries

explain procedures for customer and business liaison

describe the industry standards relevant to digital images.
