Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Define and analyse the technical requirements
   • Identify the business requirements and appropriate standards
   • Determine and document, the purpose, expectations and functionality of the website
   • Analyse the user-interface design requirements, including user needs, design principles and operating systems
2. Produce the software design specifications
   • Produce a hierarchy of the website showing navigation
   • Ensure that the content is logical and accessible to the user
   • Produce the prototype of the user interface
   • Determine and document, the architectural requirements
   • Design the data storage requirements
3. Develop the website to the specified design
   • Create the software components of the website
   • Test the components of the website
   • Integrate the components to produce the web application
4. Test the web application
   • Test the website against the requirements
   • Complete and document the design structure
   • Obtain client feedback and adjust web applications as appropriate

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

analyse the technical requirements for a dynamic web site

produce software design specifications

create a website, using efficient and effective code to meet the technical requirements, and test and document a website against the requirements.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

summarise the principles of analysis and design

outline programming control and design structures, and object-oriented programming

explain web programming concepts, including:

authentication and web security

hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP)

session management

stateless programming.
