Range Statement
The Range Statement relates to the unit of competency as a whole. It allows for different work environments and situations that may affect performance. Add any essential operating conditions that may be present with training and assessment depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts.Where reference is made to industry codes of practice, and/or Australian/international standards, the latest version must be used.ContextThose persons working, operating or who regularly travel within an onshore or offshore installation or facility would require this competency. This unit could be applied to any of the following installation or facilities:factories and production plantsonshore/offshore rig/installationisland based facilityfloating production vessel or platformonshore production, processing pipeline systems and/or storage facilitiespipeline easementsmaintenance bases.ProceduresAll operations are performed in accordance with procedures.Procedures include all relevant workplace procedures, work instructions, temporary instructions and relevant industry and government codes and standards. All operations to which this unit applies are subject to stringent health, safety and environment requirements, which may be imposed through State or federal legislation, and these must not be compromised at any time. Where there is an apparent conflict between performance criteria and HSE requirements, the HSE requirements take precedence.Tools and equipmentThis competency includes use of equipment and tools such as:personal protective equipmentsuch as breathing apparatushand held extinguishershose reelsfire blanketssmoke or self rescue respiratorsmobile and portable equipmentFirst Aid equipmentpipeline repair clampslamb air moversbarricades and signagecommunications equipment: two-way radios, mobile and satellite phones and pagersfire extinguishing media, including water, foam, extinguishing powder, gaseous extinguishing agents, vapourising liquids, other fire extinguishing substances.HazardsTypical hazards include:smoke, darkness and heatelectricitygasstructural hazardsstructural collapseindustrial - machinery, equipment, producthazardous products and materialsunauthorised personnel.Problems'Respond to routine problems' means 'apply known solutions to a limited range of predictable problems'.VariablesKey variables to be monitored include:failure to control fire with first response methodsadverse change in weather conditionschange in flame colour and sizechange in smoke colourfire spread and/or other material becoming involved in firesigns of structural collapse.TacticsFire fighting tactics may include:direct attackindirect attackcombination attackexposure protectionbut does NOT include internal/offensive attacks.External personnelExternal personnel may include:policefire brigadeambulance.
